style board: "lagoon" parlour

I have been obsessed with the Lagoon Velvet from West Elm after seeing the Spring Preview.  I'm diggin the fact that it goes with sooooo many colors, but I couldn't resist pairing it with brights in a glam parlour with glossy Galapagos Turquoise walls from Benjamin Moore.  I envision a salon wall behind the sofa, but I ran out of time to look for art!

interiors: pattern play, vogue living australia sept./oct. 2009

The Melbourne home of designer Diane Bergeron started with fantastic warehouse bones and became a lovely home thanks to a mix of colorful prints and contemporary furnishings.
How fabulous is this black and white striped curtain wall?

The metal vault door makes the kitchen.
A room pretty enough for a princess.

The grey silk curtain wall helps to neutralize the many pops of orange in this room and with the jewel blue thrown in...me likey!

found: "the best" cranberry blondies recipe

 PLUS
=
DELISH!

I did a little baking Christmas Eve day, my own recipe for Rice Crispy Balls (I add white chocolate chips and make balls instead of squares then sprinkle with red and green sugar.

I made Cranberry Blondies, now Mom's favorite, a couple of years ago, but for the second straight year, I forgot to take the recipe with me...so I figured I'd put it on the blog, not only to share, but to always have access to it as well!

CRANBERRY BLONDIES from Better Homes & Gardens November 2007

1/2 C butter, softened
1/2 C sugar
1/2 C packed brown sugar
3/4 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 C all-purpose flour
1/2 C dried cranberries
1/2 C chopped white chocolate
1 C fresh cranberries

Preheat oven to 350°.

In large mixing bowl beat butter with wire whisk or electric mixer until softened.  Whisk or beat in sugars, baking powder, soda and salt. Whisk or beat in eggs and vanilla until combined.  With a whisk, or with electric mixer on low speed, beat in flour.

Stir in dried cranberries and white chocolate (I like to throw in a few fresh berries in at this point as well).  Spread batter in a buttered 11x7x1½-inch or 9x9x2 baking pan.  Sprinkle with fresh cranberries; press in lightly with spatula.  Bake 25 to 30 minutes or until toothpick inserted near center comes out clean.

Cool on wire rack 1 hour.  Cut into bars.  Makes 12 bars

Enjoy!

creative cocktails: black bart

I had purchased several blackberries recently and could only eat so much yogurt with blackberries and honey, sooooo, I put my mixologist cap on and got busy!

Black Bart

7-9 blackberries
1 oz. brown sugar simple syrup (heat equal parts water and brown sugar to make syrup)
1 1/2 oz. whiskey
1 1/2 oz. rum (Hence the name Black Bart, although he preferred tea over rum)

Muddle 5 blackberries in a shaker with the simple syrup.  Add whiskey, rum and ice; shake.  Poor over 2 blackberries in a martini glass.  Makes two small cocktails.

Enjoy!

interiors: boho bright christmas

I have been in the same small townhouse for many years now, so my Christmas decor hasn't changed much, well, hasn't changed at all, but the future looks bright!  I am enamored with this boho bright fuchsia and red from Campagne Decoration.  The mix of sweet traditional touches, exotic patterns, bold colors and cozy fur.  This is a definite Boho must do for a Christmas future.

found: {stunningly beautiful} bohemian winter, shopbop.com

I love, love, love the ethereal meets cool style of the Bohemian Winter Lookbook at Shopbop.com.  The looks alone leave me speechless, but the set for the photo shoot is absolute perfection as well...

My days have been busier than normal lately, a GREAT thing, but I will do my best to post some daily stylish tid-bits.

interiors: jaw-dropper, elle decor december 2011

It has been a long time, a really long time, since a decor mag cover made me squeal with excitement!  But December's Elle DECOR dining room cover did just that; the dining table, the chandi, the walls, the table lamps, the lacquer blue Tommi Parzinger credenza, the room is just stunning!  Then there is the rest of the spectacular Manhattan apartment of Ashley Stark...this feature alone is enough to grab up the December mag, but thankfully, the eye candy doesn't stop here.

Bravo Elle DECOR, bravo!

found: boho glam necklaces

My fabulous friend Lu had her yearly birthday this past Saturday. She's a pretty cowgirl who likes simple jewelry, so I made her a black leather bracelet with a little blingy glam. I then had to make myself a couple of boho glam pieces...the nude leather and three beads is going to look super sweet in the summer. The crystal on the black leather is from a chandi. My Uncle Johnny gave me four small crystals (already a set of earrings) and three larger teardrop ones. Where he got them, hard to say, but they mean the world to me :)

food, dining in: on the fly, cozze alla marinara

Cozze alla Marinara
1 T butter
2 T sweet onion or shallot, minced
2 garlic cloves, chopped
1/2 C white wine
1/2 C marinara sauce (which I had in the freezer as well)
1# mussels
S & P
2 T fresh parsley, chopped
8 oz. capellini
Melt butter in a medium pot over med-high heat. Saute onion and garlic, about 1 minute. Add wine and marinara sauce, simmer for about 3 minutes. Add mussels and cook until open, or if using frozen, about 5-6 minutes to heat thoroughly. Season with S&P and serve over capellini with crusty bread to sop up remaining sauce.
Enjoy!

interiors: "the un-hamptons hamptons" plus, when bad paint happens to a good house

I have a been a busy stylist of late, especially the past couple of days, which explains my recent absences. Yesterday I started the "industrial chic" style plan for the lovely Scott and Mirela, and today...well let's just say there is a reason for the simple, yet stunning, Hampton beach house of Christiane Lemieux featured recently in LUCKY mag, it is just what I needed to cleanse my creative palette.

I did a color consult today for a client who does fix-n-flips, and let me just say, this house needed a whole lotta fixin. The pictures speak for themselves. VIEWER BEWARE...

This is the entry, looking into...

the dining room. But doesn't my fur vest (purchased years ago) look fabulous?!
