yves saint laurent the retrospective

I consider myself to be a very lucky girl to have been able to witness, in person, the creative works of a true fashion genius, Yves Saint Laurent.  On June 29, I had an experience of a lifetime at the Denver Art Museum...

...to see his "creative space" was such an inspiration...

...Naomi rocked this emerald number in YSL's final runway show, amazing...

...the "swatch room" left me breathless...

...thank you Pierre Bergé and Denver Art Museum for a truly magical event!

project saturday: linen, paint and dirt

My new linen curtain for my back door, I love it!  Keeps the bugs out, let's a breeze in and filters the sunlight.  I hung the Azalea linen on an old rusty piece of re bar I found on the ranch a few years ago with rings I made from large gauge jewelry wire and silver beads.  I sewed on fishing weights to the bottom to keep it from blowing away.

This is my Grampa plant because it used to belong to my Grampa Brennan.  This little guy is 30 something years old!  He was in desperate need of new digs, a bigger pot (with some sassy paint) and fortified soil.  He already looks happier!

Refinery29 recently featured Natalie Joos of Tales of Endearment, a fashion consultant and casting agent located in Brooklyn.  I absolutely love her style and fashion sense, so when I saw this fun, sassy, sexy outfit, well, I just had to create a fun, sassy, sexy lounge based on Ms. Joos fabulous ensemble.

random thoughts...what the bleep, tom hardy is bane?

A busy day, so a completely random posting...

I went to see "Dark Knight Rises" last evening, (FREAKIN AWESOME!) and I was blown away by the dude playing Bane, the man who "broke The Bat".  We watched the credits and saw the name Tom Hardy, still didn't know, sorry Tom, the name just wasn't clicking.  After seeing Mr. Hardy last year in "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy", where he looked like Sonny Crocket from "Miami Vice" the t.v. series.  So how on earth would I guess that the bald beast wreaking havoc on Gotham was the same guy?

Bravo Mr. Hardy, bravo!  Hands down the most amazing transformation for a character evah!

summer grub: radish greens pesto

My neighbor and I planted a garden in the spring and the radishes were the first crop ready for pickin.  I know what to do with radishes, but I wondered if the greens were edible as well, and guess what, they are!  This Radish Greens Pesto dish has quickly become a favorite, fresh and peppery, too bad all our radishes are gone.

Radish Greens Pesto -adapted from Chocolate and Zucchini

Radish greens, a good sized handful, rinsed really well in a salad spinner
1 clove garlic
1 T grated Parmesan
1 T pine nuts
½ to 1 oz. olive oil
S & P
Zest from ½ a lemon
Red pepper flakes

Combine radish greens, garlic, Parmesan, pine nuts and olive oil in a small food processor.  Season to taste with S & P.

I love this pesto on cheese ravioli.  Top with lemon zest, red pepper flakes and extra Parm.  Serves 2.

Enjoy!

fashion inspired style board: r & y agousti deco glam bedroom suite

click on image to enjoy a larger view

The R & Y Agousti box clutch is a work of art in and of itself.  While images of it appear over and over on Pinterest, finding specs on it is not so easy.  I'm not exactly sure of the elements that make up this lovely little jewel, so I kinda made up my own...shagreen, tortoise shell and lapis lazuli.  While no harm came to any sharks or tortoises, nor any actual mining of lapis lazuli to create this style board, I think it to be pretty spiffy.

"brilliant: white in design"-a peak inside linda o'keeffes new book

The following sentiments by Ms. O'Keeffe are so true...

AMEN!!!

The bedroom above is so simple and clean, but oh so visually stunning thanks to the different lighting treatments and the graphic wall.

summer grub...chicken club salad

image via Pinterest

Who am I kidding, I eat Big Ass Salads year round, but this is my latest favorite meal in a bowl!  It consists of romaine lettuce, tomatoes (love the little grape toms), bacon, chicken (grilled or store bought rotisserie in a pinch) avocado, croutons and last night I threw in a hard boiled egg as well.

Club Dressing-adapted from Martha Stewart Everday Food June 2012

¼ C light mayo
2 T chopped scallion, white and green
3 to 4 T fresh lemon juice
S & P

Whisk together ingredients and season with S & P.

Croutons

2 C cubed bread
1-2 T extra virgin olive oil

Heat olive oil in microwave for 30 seconds.  Drizzle over cubed bread.  Broil on High for 1 minute.  Remove from oven and stir.  Place back in oven and broil for 1 more minute.  Remove from oven, season with S & P.  Place back in oven, with the broiler off, to toast a little more.  Can be made 1 to 2 hours before serving.

fashion inspired style board: elizabeth & james boho glam covered patio

click on image to enjoy a larger view

I'm so digging these silk floral pants from Elizabeth & James.  The oleander print with the graphic navy and white stripes are pretty, contemporary, beachy and glam, but...when you don't have a beach, you transform your patio.

A mix of contemporary lines, a few glam touches (so loving the bar with tile serving tray), pink linen curtains, seat cushions covered in a very hard to find oleander print, throw in a sound machine for a little beach vibe and you have an urban paradise.

diy: real estate office entry desk

Kinda cool what $20 worth of maple cabinet scraps, $30 at Home Depot and $14 for legs at IKEA will get ya...

The maple slats came from the super awesome Bud's Warehouse, Denver's Home Improvement Thrift Store.  I stained the slats with Minwax Golden Oak then "mended" them together, on the bottom, with mending plates from Home Depot. Attached the $3.50 legs from IKEA and voilĂ !
